The Differences and Similarities between Language and Mathematics

There are several branches of science in academic course such as Language, Mathematics, Philosophy, Law, History and many more. Language and Mathematics are two sciences in academic course which commonly studied by humans contain some differences and similarities.
The first difference between Language and Mathematics lies in ambiguity. Unlike Mathematics, Language has ambiguity. Homophone and homograph are examples of ambiguity in Language. Homophone is the same pronunciation of words but has different meanings or spelling, such word “new” and “knew”. Homograph is the same spelling words but not necessarily pronounced the same way and also have different meanings, such as word “recall”, this word has more than one meaning. Mathematics does not contains ambiguity , all mathematics terms and symbols are universal. The second difference is the existence of aesthetic value. Language contains aesthetic value, differ with mathematics which has no aesthetic value. Aesthetic value of language interpreted through poem, poetry, musicalization , verse and other language artwork.
The similarities of Language and Mathematics are both have formula. Formula of Language known as grammar which consist fixed form of words, set expression, and phrase. Formula of Mathematics expressed in symbols and usually followed by number. Another similarity is Language and Mathematics are primary fundamental needs for humans. Humans need language to communicate and interact in society, sign and verbal language are two common types of language which usually used by humans. Mathematics is basis exact science which needed by human to solving problematics lives. Mathematics has actual measurement which proved by numerical.
In conclusion, two common differences between Language and Mathematics are Language has ambiguity and aesthetic value meanwhile Mathematics does not contains ambiguity nor aesthetic value. The similarities between Language and Mathematics are both have formula and also the existence of Language and Mathematics similarly fundamentally needed by humans.

  1. Hi~ I think your essay is good, different from the others. But in my opinion, it would be better if you make the introduction longer by adding 1 or 2 sentences.
